Origin & History

The Beauceron is an ancient French herding breed dating back to the 1500s. They were developed to herd sheep and protect livestock from predators. During World Wars I and II, they served as military dogs, detecting mines and carrying messages. The breed was recognized by the AKC in 2007 and remains relatively rare in the United States.
