Origin & History

The Bluetick Coonhound developed in Louisiana from French and English hounds brought by early settlers. They were bred specifically for trailing and treeing raccoons and other game. Originally grouped with English Coonhounds, they were recognized as a separate breed by the UKC in 1946 and the AKC in 2009. They remain popular hunting dogs.
