Origin & History

German Pinschers are one of Germany's oldest breeds, dating to the 1400s. They were used to kill rats and guard property. They nearly went extinct after World War II but were revived by dedicated breeders. They are the ancestor of the Doberman and Miniature Pinscher. The AKC recognized them in 2003.
