Origin & History

The Boykin Spaniel originated near Boykin, South Carolina around 1900. A small stray dog adopted by Alexander White proved to be an excellent turkey dog and retriever. Bred with other spaniels and retrievers, the Boykin was refined for hunting in South Carolina's Wateree River Swamp. The AKC recognized them in 2009. They remain popular hunting and family dogs.
