Origin & History

Field Spaniels were developed in England in the mid-1800s as a distinct breed for field work. They were nearly ruined by extreme show breeding in the late 1800s but were restored by dedicated breeders. They remain one of the rarer spaniel breeds. The AKC first recognized them in 1894.
