Origin & History

Clumber Spaniels take their name from Clumber Park, estate of the Duke of Newcastle. They were developed by the English aristocracy in the late 18th century for hunting in heavy cover. Their low, heavy build allowed them to work slowly and methodically. They were prized by royalty including Prince Albert and King Edward VII. The AKC recognized them in 1884.
