Origin & History

Pyrenean Shepherds have worked in the Pyrenees mountains for centuries, herding sheep alongside Great Pyrenees guardian dogs. They were used as messenger dogs in WWI. The breed was relatively unknown outside France until recently. The AKC recognized them in 2009.
