Origin & History

The Sloughi originated in North Africa with evidence in rock paintings from 7000-8000 BC. Bred by Berber and Bedouin tribes for hunting gazelle and other game across harsh desert terrain. Only chiefs and kings were permitted to own them. The breed nearly went extinct during World War II. The AKC recognized them in 2016.
