Origin & History

Finnish Spitz developed in Finland to hunt game birds. They locate birds in trees and bark to distract them while alerting the hunter - a technique called 'bark pointing.' They nearly went extinct but were revived in the late 1800s. They are Finland's national dog. The AKC recognized them in 1988.
