Origin & History
Norwegian Lundehunds developed on remote Norwegian islands to hunt puffins in cliff caves. Their unique physical traits evolved for this specialized work. They nearly went extinct twice - when puffin hunting was banned and during World War II. All modern Lundehunds descend from just a handful of dogs. The AKC recognized them in 2011.
